We are having a wonderful spring thunderstorm right now, and I had to share that because I know my sister loves thunderstorms, and this reminds me of when we would sit on the front porch during summer thunderstorms in Indiana. :)
I arrived safely home from Los Angeles Friday night after a great time hanging out with Bekah, Lo and her boyfriend Michael, Danielle, Kraig, and their adorable daughter Kyriana, and my relatives! It was so good to catch up on the deeper things in our lives and to just laugh at silly faces (LO!) and memories ("I told you NO!" and the inability to do maximum extension because of a sore leg). Anyone who knows my sister needs to ask her about the proper way to store ground beef. Alright, enough of the inside jokes!
Dan and I were able to talk several times each day I was gone, which is more than we've done in the past on solo trips. And there was no shame sharing several kisses in the airport upon my arrival in Indianapolis! :) Dan held my hand as we waited for my baggage, and I know this sounds cheesy, but it reminded me of the first time we held hands, lying by the pine trees by the track at Dordt College late one night during the spring of 2002. Good times.
Becca and Laremy were here for the weekend, which allowed for some much-needed face-to-face catch-up time. I'm so thankful they made the journey out to Indiana just for 2 days! Later we'll post some pictures of belly comparisons. :)
Julie and I's way of sharing our lives to our friends and family. Enjoy, post, comment, and reflect!

Ultrasound and the Deer
Today Dan and I went in for our 20-week ultrasound, and Little One is looking good! Dan did compare L.O. to an amoeba at one point and then an alien at another point, but the technician said everything is looking normal. Dan will be posting pictures later this week.
Unfortunately, we had a minor accident on our way this morning. About 10 minutes into the journey, I saw a deer sprinting across a field towards us, and in the 3 seconds or so before impact, all I could do was yell Dan’s name. Despite our bond as husband and wife, he couldn’t interpret what this meant, and saw the deer only a moment before it made contact with the driver side window – enough time to brake and close his eyes. The window shattered, the deer cleared the car, and we came to a stop at the side of the road. Dan’s favorite part of this experience was when I turned to him with a horrified expression (you should see his imitation) and shouted, “DAN, ARE YOU OKAY???” He was okay, despite being covered in tiny shards of glass, which were causing some bleeding. (I think Dan’s other favorite part was when the driver of the truck that was coming towards us stopped, asked if we were okay, and then told us how he wished he could’ve videotaped our impact with the deer).
Anyway, I was still determined to have this ultrasound and pre-natal appointment (anyone who teaches know that making sub plans is NOT a fun activity), so we called our good friends the Cramers who let us borrow their car for the day. The Imaging Center graciously pushed back the ultrasound to 9:30, and the rest of the day went smoothly (except for the pain of not being able to pee before the ultrasound – they let me go a little bit – I think they felt sorry for me after the whole deer incident – why haven’t any of my pregnant relatives or friends warned me about the pre-ultrasound experience of not being able to pee?).
In the end, we are praising God that Little One is healthy, that we are okay, that the car doesn’t have major damage, and that we have such good friends here in Upland.
